Should You Follow A Detox Cleanse Diet To Lose Weight?

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing the 12 best detox foods to cleanse your body all year round.

The words “detox” and “cleanse” gets thrown around like crazy in the health industry.

Based on this, I’ve been asked numerous times about my thoughts on detox and cleanse diets.

For example:

  • Is it necessary to do a detox and cleanse?
  • Should you follow a detox and cleanse diet to lose weight?
  • How do you do a detox and cleanse?

Well most detox diet professionals suggest you should do a detox before starting a new diet.

These Detox Diets Claim To Help You:

Just so we’re clear, I’m not arguing with any of those detox diet claims.

These detox diet professionals will then send their clients a list of detox foods.

These detox foods are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps cleanse and detox the liver, during the cleanse period.

The list of detox foods would usually include the following.

Of course they are.

Let Me Be Clear And Upfront

I’ve never done a detox cleanse diet before.

Why?

The reason is simple.

As a Live Leaner, we’re committed to a lifestyle of eating primarily whole foods, containing one ingredient.

When you are following a healthy lifestyle way of eating, you will probably never need to go on a short-term detox diet.

5 New Rules of Live Lean Eating

Why?

Well, you’re already healthy.

It’s Time To Change Your Mindset And Start Living Lean

Living Lean is a sustainable lifestyle that keeps you healthy, 365 days a year.

When are we going to stop the dieting rollercoaster of:

  • eating like crap
  • feeling like crap
  • then doing a cleanse
  • feeling better
  • getting bored with those detox foods
  • then ultimately falling back into the eating like crap trap again

When it comes to Living Lean, there is no magic pill and no magic diet.

Living Lean is not about:

  • detoxes
  • cleanses
  • going on diets
  • perfection

Living Lean is about:

  • pursuing daily progress
  • learning how to make your health fit into your lifestyle
  • committing to raising your life’s standards
  • striving to be better everyday
  • consistency
  • focusing on eating one ingredient foods

What Is Your “Why”?

Living Lean is simple, but it’s not easy.

In order to stay consistent and turn your health into a sustainable lifestyle, it’s important to first figure out your “why”.

Your “why” must spark a strong emotional connection to why you need to change your daily habits.

Once you have a strong enough “why”, you’ll now have the driving force to push you towards making the necessary healthy lifestyle changes.

So if you’re thinking about following a short-term detox diet, let me first ask you this.

Why would you follow a short-term detox diet, when you can learn how to make these healthy detox foods taste delicious, so you can continue to enjoy them every single week?

  1. Doing any task with passion and lust, makes every task an enjoyable journey.
A strong belief, coupled with positive thinking, is just one of the marks of a successful entrepreneur.
What you need to do is set your goals and come up with an action plan.

  2. Greetings Brad. I recently subscribed to your channels and started watching
your videos. I had previously pushed myself through detoxing days as, as
you said a period between changing diets! My ordianary crapy diet to the
more healthy diet from a nutritionist. The only thing i got was 2kgs less
in 2 days (water mostly and maybe muscle) and feeling well for eating food
the next days, so as to appreciate the low amounts of food intake comparing
to the detoxing period. Just that.
I have been from 98kgs to 67kgs in my whole life. I am now 34 years old
and actually am at 92kgs and a 25% fat and geting married in two months
from now. I must put myself together but i lost all my will during this
whole year past by me trying to keep a job that actually didn’t fit. I
finally got fired and was happy for the first few days like having much
more time for myself but now, i’m feeling to crapy because i am recovering
from a neck injury and i am not allowed to workout. I feel like a mess and
i am trying to lose weight while being most of the time at home doing
almosta nothing. Have lost all my interest for everything. Any advice?

  3. Yes I did a vegan detox. Just real foods and green juice.
I did loose weight and opened my eyes into not eating so much
protein(animal) it wasn’t a stupid lemon one. No pills or potions.
Now I consider myself a Paegan, Paleo, Vegan, best of both nutritious
eating. I definitely had a build up of toxins in my system from previous
crap diets. Living lean every day is a lifestyle commitment we all need to
strive towards, love the passion Brad

  4. Fired up. I love it. I have to watch my “passion” when it comes to this
topic. I can get carried away. Everything you said is right. Forget the
diets, the fads and everything else. Eat right, workout and enjoy life.
    Thanks for the vid.

  5. Yup, I did a handful of detoxes for awhile. I was coached through it by
someone who, through the process taught me a lot about nutrition and the
junk on food labels. I went pretty extreme (master cleanse for 21 days
initially). I was totally naive to how I was starving myself and could
only see that I was dropping the pounds and having a hell of a mental
workout for sticking with it so long. It really “reset” my body… that’s
for sure. BUT I would not advise it. In hindsight it was NOT good for my
body’s well being. I learned a lot from it, and actually swore by it for
awhile after. However, in hindsight, I can see how those cleanses (and
others) are mainly a pseudo health claim and health industry money maker.

Brad, you’re preaching the truth – (which I know believe) and I give an
    AMEN!

  6. Excellent video and excellent content. The term ‘detox’ is the word du jour
nowadays, that’s for sure. One thing to keep in mind is that we don’t need
to improve upon nature, especially when claims are made that this is
possible from a box or pill bottle. Our bodies are equipped with the most
powerful detoxing mechanisms that we’ll ever need, it’s just up to us to
properly fuel our body to allow our own internal detox machines (liver,
skin, kidneys, lungs, lymphatic system and of course our blood to do all
the detoxing we need. Brad, you are so correct, eating one ingredient
foods, everyday is what we need to properly detox, nothing gimmicky like
what you see sold out of a box. It is said that our body has it’s own
internal pharmacy, with everything it needs to prevent, heal, and cure
whatever comes our way, we just need to fuel it properly.

  7. I never tried a detox…. I just changed the way I ate. Your cook book is
awesome though….lost a lot of weight because of your videos.

  8. Never tried a detox diet before, but i do have some yogi detox tea followed
by an ice cold glass of lemon water first thing in every morning on an
empty stomach and try my best to eat as clean as possible within my current
    financial means.
