On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing 3 simple ways to make your metabolism love you.
I’d like to take this time to introduce you to a very good friend of mine.
We’ve been very close throughout my fitness career.
I would say that keeping this friend happy has produced extraordinary results for my overall health and my body, and it can do the same for you as well.
When you treat it right, this friend will be more loyal and more effective, than any personal trainer or workout partner.
I call him, Mr. Metabolism.
So the question is, how do you take the necessary steps to improve your relationship with your metabolism?
Here are 3 simple ways to make your metabolism love you.
When you’re deciding what you want to eat for your next meal or snack, the first thing that should come to your head is protein.
Why protein?
Protein is one of your metabolism’s favorite nutrients.
Foods high in protein can:
Protein also has a high thermic effect, which simply means they require your body to burn a lot of calories just to digest the protein.
Thermogenesis in the body is like a furnace that creates extra heat by burning excess calories from our fat supplies.
The efficiency of your thermogenic system can be the difference between an average or high fat storage.
Here’s an example.
Eating a high protein food like a chicken breast can boost your metabolic rate, in other words your calorie burn, by up to 35%.
Compare that to a high carbohydrate meal which may only increase your metabolic rate by 4%.
And finally, protein also helps you build more muscle tissue, which raises your daily resting energy expenditure.
To put this more simply, by having more lean muscle tissue, your body burns more calories throughout the day, even while you sleep.
Damn that’s good!
Simply put, resistance training builds lean muscle tissue.
Why is lifting weights important to your metabolism?
Lean muscle tissue is the key metabolic driver of your body, meaning the more lean muscle tissue you have, the higher metabolic rate you will experience.
A high metabolic rate equals more calorie burn throughout the day.
Bottom Line: Muscle helps your body burn more body fat.
This is why I always highly recommend people incorporate resistant training in any fat loss workout program.
Promise me that you will stop overlooking the importance of sleep.
To make your metabolism love you, you need to optimize your hormones, and proper sleep is one of the ways to do this.
7-8 hours of sleep for most people is optimal.
