Do you wish you could eat healthier but get tired of eating salad every day?
I know eating salad every day can be boring. But not if you use my 3 secrets!
When my husband Brad and I started living together 3 years ago I started making him salads this way and he was AMAZED. He had simply never thought of doing these 3 secrets that I use to keep myself forever interested in & excited about salad.
Most people just throw whole lettuce leaves on a plate, dump some protein on top, then top it with some gloopy store bought dressing. Salad is one of the healthiest things you can eat for any meal and one of the meals we recommend you have daily.
But if I had a nickel for every time somebody said, “I’m so tired of eating salad” I’d be rich!
I always say it’s not WHAT you do, it’s HOW you do it. Follow my tips to turn boring ass salad into something you love and crave.
The first step to making freaking awesome salad is to choose the right lettuce. We usually go with Arugula, Spinach, Kale or Mixed Greens rather than romaine or iceberg. These darker color lettuces generally have more flavor & nutrition than the light colored ones.
You want to make sure to chop the lettuce before throwing it into your mixing bowl. This step makes your salad easier to eat and more flavorful.
Next try shredding your carrots or celery, this changes the texture making it more interesting. Add pickles or sauerkraut for more flavor variety, moisture and digestive benefits
If you don’t like raw onions then you can cook them before adding to your salad, but onions add TONS of flavor and health benefits. I like finely chopped red onions.
For a source of healthy fats use something like seeds, nuts, or avocado (or guacamole). Sprouts add a fun texture and flavor. I like radish or alfalfa sprouts. You can include tomatoes, bell peppers or any other veggies from the Free Foods list.
For protein use something left over from last night’s dinner or that you have pre-cooked in bulk. You can alternate between beef, turkey, chicken and seafood.
Add fresh herbs and spices, chop the herbs finely to release flavor and aroma.
For dressing DO NOT USE STORE BOUGHT DRESSINGS.
Make your own by combining vinegar, olive oil and seasonings.
I’m using 1 T. Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 T. Olive Oil, a sprinkle of Ms. Dash, some pink salt, & black pepper. Make sure you use different ingredients each time to get lots of micronutrients into your diet.
