On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, we’re sharing 8 essential kitchen items and home gym equipment for beginners.
This was a question from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 013.
Karla Gaytan @karlagaytan42 on Twitter asks: What tools do you recommend we invest in to aid in a Live Lean lifestyle? For example, a food scale, activity tracker, etc.? What are your 8 essential kitchen items and home gym equipment for beginners.
Good question.
First off, Karla has been posting quite a bit, so thank you for your engagement.
When it comes to workout tools, if you workout at home, here are 4 nice to have home gym equipment pieces that are great for beginners.
Note: if you have a gym membership, a lot of this workout equipment should be available to use at your gym.
Next, let’s talk about 4 essential kitchen items that you need in your home.
We love using the food processor.
Although we didn’t always have access to one, once we did, we’ve been using it a ton.
Besides the huge time saving benefit, using a food processor is also great for making different textures out of healthy foods.
This is important because one of the ways healthy food gets boring is when you eat it the same way, every time.
The food processor really helps with switching things up with your meals.
The blender is amazing because we use it every day to make smoothies.
As a beginner, using a food scale is definitely good, especially if you don’t know how much food you should be eating.
If you’re new to healthy eating, think of using a food scale as the starting point for your nutrition school education.
As a beginner, it’s important to put in your time and do the work.
Start by learning how to use the food scale to measure your portion sizes for a day.
Then continue using the food scale every day for the next 2 weeks to a month.
When it comes to nutrition, using a food scale during the beginning of my journey was one of the things that changed my life.
This early education in nutrition set me on the path, where I now understand the caloric energy and macronutrients found in food.
For example, based on my experience, I can now simply look at a sweet potato and roughly know how many calories and carbohydrates it contains.
I also know what my portion sizes are.
However, I would have never known this, had I not done the work and measured my food in the beginning.
Since I put in the time by measuring my food with a food scale, I now no longer need to count calories, or use a food scale every day.
So based on our experience, when it comes to essential kitchen items, we highly recommend using a food scale if you’re a beginner.
Here’s a link to a slick looking food scale that works well and we really like.
Measuring cups are also a nice to have kitchen item when it comes to measuring ingredients for recipes.
However, when it comes to measuring food portion sizes, a food scale definitely works more accurately than measuring cups.
A lot of times people may see us and just think we’re naturally fit.
However, they didn’t see all the work we put in, especially when it comes to nutrition.
We always tell our clients that once you get your nutrition on point, your workouts are secondary.
Sure the workouts are important, but when it comes to nutrition, that’s where you’ll make huge improvements to your health.
Although it may seem like you just need to workout harder and more often, that is not the whole picture.
When you do workout, you can eat more food, which then fuels the muscle to burn more fat.
In other words, your workouts and nutrition go together magically.
That’s why we don’t just recommend doing one or the other.
However, I’ve always said that if I had to do only do one thing to get results, either eat healthy or work out, eating healthy would hands down be more important than working out.
But let’s not even go there, because you should also fall in love with working out too.
Let’s do it.
If you’re ready to invest in yourself to finally figure it out, once and for all, the exact types of foods, portion sizes, and how much food you should be eating, Jessica wants to write a custom meal plan for you.
You will work with Jessica on an intensive and focused 6 week plan to help you towards your goals.
I know Jessica can help you get there.
