Toxic skincare ingredients: what are xenoestrogrens?

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing why you should avoid these toxic skincare ingredients called xenoestrogens.

Yes, this is Freestyle Friday.

This is the segment of the show where I talk about anything health related.

So to date, I’ve filmed hundreds of videos showing you how to Live Lean forever.

But I’ve done you a disservice, as I’ve not yet talked about this one topic that may be holding you back.

In fact, I’m still learning about this topic and trying to figure it out for myself.

So if you’re interested in what this is, and why I filmed this video in my bathroom, lets get into it.

As you know, I always recommend you follow a diet that consists primarily of whole, natural foods in order to reduce the amount of chemicals and toxins you’re putting into your body.

But guess what?

There’s another way you could be adding a lot of harmful chemicals and toxins to your body without eating anything.

I referring to the chemical toxins you’re probably putting into your body via your skincare products.

These skincare products include:

  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • toothpaste
  • lotions
  • shaving cream
  • deodorant
  • hair styling products
  • and whatever else you apply to the largest organ on your body, your skin!

In most cases, these skincare products are being added to your skin every day, meaning these toxic ingredients are being absorbed by your skin and body at a tremendous rate.

People are not aware that most skincare products are loaded with toxic chemicals, rather than natural ingredients.

These toxic chemicals are called xenoestrogens.

Therefore it’s very important to get into the habit of reading your skincare product ingredients, just like you do with your food.

What are xenoestrogrens?

Well first of all, xenoestrogens act as synthetic, estrogen mimicking hormones in the body.

In excess, these man made chemicals may throw off the hormonal balance of both men and women.

Important note to men:

As guys, it’s very important to maintain our testosterone as we age.

The unhealthy foods we eat, the chemicals we put into our body, and the smoke and smog we breath in the air, are all lifestyle factors that may reduce our testosterone counts.

The testosterone counts in today’s males is probably the lowest it’s ever been, due to all of these poor dietary decisions and lifestyle factors.

This reduction in testosterone production is creating:

  • Muscle loss
  • Fat storage
  • Decreased sex drive and libido

So if your goal is to stay lean and healthy all year round, it should be one of your goals to naturally maintain your testosterone production.

Important note to women:

These toxic chemicals are just as harmful for you.

Over exposure can cause:

  • Infertility
  • Thyroid issues
  • Obesity
  • Cancer
  • Disease
  • And many other issues in your body

So please take this topic seriously by avoiding these toxic skincare ingredients.

Avoid These Toxic Skincare Ingredients:

Avoid these toxic skincare ingredients in your deodorant, shampoos, toothpastes, and anything that you’re putting on your body or skin.

Note: you will NOT see the word “xenoestrogen” in your skincare ingredients.

Here are the different types of xenoestrogens to look out for on your skincare product’s ingredients list.

Does your skincare products contain these xenoestrogen ingredients:

  • Parabens (including methyl-paraben and butyl-paraben)
  • Sulfates (including sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate)
  • Glycol (including propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol)

These are just a few of the toxic xenoestrogens that you need to avoid in your skincare products ingredients list.

Now, I’m going to be honest.

After doing this research, I immediately went to my cabinet and looked at the ingredients list on my deodorant, hair gel, body wash, and shampoo.

All my skincare products contained one or more of these xenoestrogens in the ingredients.

Epic fail!

Here I am promoting this healthy lifestyle, not even aware that I’m putting these toxic chemicals into my body at drastic rates.

After discovering this, I went out and bought new shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, and sunscreen.

I have also found this healthy hair gel product.

If you know a lot about healthy hair and skincare products, like deodorant, that do not contain xenoestrogens, send me a tweet @BradGouthro or leave a comment below.

This hair gel and deodorant didn’t work for me.

Avoid These Toxic Skincare Ingredients

And that’s it.

I know it’s going to be a shock when you check the ingredients on your skincare products, since there is a very good chance they will contain these toxic xenoestrogens.

What if my skincare products contain these toxic skincare ingredients?

If your skincare products contain these toxic skincare ingredients, you have a few options.

  • Option #1: throw everything out, buy new skincare products, and start over again.

Yes, this will be expensive.

  • Option #2: use up what you currently have, then buy new skincare products.

Once you run out, buy healthier skincare products that do not contain any of these toxic skincare ingredients.

  • Option #3: get rid of the unhealthy skincare products that you use daily, but keep the others.

Then slowly build your way up to a cabinet of healthy xenoestrogen free skincare products over time.

I know it’s difficult.

Again, it will shock you when you look at your skincare products ingredients list.

But here’s the lesson.

If you’re looking to live a healthy and lean lifestyle…

Focus on getting food chemicals out of your diet AND the toxic chemicals in your skincare products.

Remember, this was all new information for me as well.

I hope you enjoyed this Freestyle Friday video on which toxic skincare ingredients to avoid in your skincare products.
