On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, we’re answering a viewer question who asked, should I do deadlifts on leg day or back day?
Today’s viewer question is from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 022.
@dex2real on Snapchat asks:
Deadlifts, the king of all exercises! Is it better to perform them on back day or leg day?
Jess: I always consider deadlifts to be a leg exercise that also works the back.
However, I do know that some people consider them a back exercise.
Would you ever write a deadlift into a back workout?
Brad: In some workout programs, I’ll write a posterior chain day.
The posterior chain means it’s all exercises on the back of your body.
This means I would have you doing hamstrings exercises as well as your lower back and lats.
Jess: However, if I was writing a back specific workout, I don’t think I would put deadlifts in there.
Brad: I would maybe put some good mornings in there to work the lower back.
Jess: Yeah, that is ver similar, but the weight is on your shoulders, instead of in front of you.
I consider deadlifts a leg exercise, specifically for the glutes and hamstring.
Brad: Yeah, I would mostly put deadlifts in leg day.
Jess: I would consider deadlifts as one of the king exercises.
However, I don’t know if they are the king.
Brad: It’s up for debate.
Jess: I think squats are the king.
Brad: I think I would go with barbell deadlifts.
Jess: Really?
Brad: Yes, deadlifts, do them.
