We also share the best time to eat fruits.
This is another episode from our #WayBackWednesday series, where we highlight the best questions from previous episodes of our #AskLiveLeanTV Q&A show.
This question is from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 004.
Kathy Figueroa on Facebook asks: Hey Brad and Jess! First of all thank you so much for all that you do 🙂 I’ve been a part of Team Live Lean since I started my journey about a year ago. I must say, most of my knowledge on fitness and nutrition, has been learned from you guys 😅. My question is, is there a preference with what time of day you eat fruit? Does it matter when I eat it as long as it fits with my daily calorie needs? Is eating fruit at night good or bad? Thanks again.
Oh yes, the old dreaded fruit question about nighttime fat gain.
By the way, Jessica and I may take slightly different stances on this question.
For example, Jessica is more of a fruit queen, as she is literally obsessed with her love for fruit.
Although she doesn’t binge on it, Jessica definitely snacks on more fruits, such as apples and oranges.
Also it seems that Jessica’s body processes carbohydrates a lot better than my body.
I’m more of a meat guy, and Jessica is more of a fruit girl.
Therefore I tend to moderate the amount of fruit that I consume in a day.
Jessica typically eats more fruit during the early part of the morning and afternoon.
She also tends to eat fruit during the pre-workout and post-workout window.
I also usually have more fruit post workout, as well for snacks or for desserts every once in a while.
No.
If we have a sweet tooth or sugar cravings at night, sometimes we’ll both have frozen cherries or berries.
Eating fruit at night usually fulfills the sugar cravings.
A bowl of frozen cherries tends to be our go to nighttime dessert.
It’s also a healthier option than eating a bowl of ice cream.
However, we do eat the majority of fruit earlier in the day.
This is when we’re more active and the sugar will be utilized for energy.
So if you are going to eat fruit at night, I would recommend choosing a fruit that is lower in sugar and lower on the glycemic index, such as berries.
Any type of frozen berries, such as blueberries or raspberries, make a perfect dessert option to fulfill your sweet tooth cravings.
So don’t be afraid to enjoy a bowl of your favorite berries at night.
Even though fruit is healthy, you should avoid eating too much fruit if it puts you over your daily calories or carbohydrate needs.
If you’re concerned that you’re eating too much fruit or you’re having trouble losing weight and getting lean, then you should take a look at your overall fruit consumption.
That way you can tell if you’re consuming too much fruit for your energy needs.
But for most people, you should be okay.
