The specific food types shown in this video contain so few calories and so much fiber that it takes your body more energy to digest them, making them essentially zero net calorie!
Are they actually “FREE”?! Maybe not, but they should be treated as free in your diet and here’s why:
When you create your meals to be primarily plant-based using low-calorie and high fiber vegetables you automatically set yourself up for diet success.
Below is a list of the free foods we had in our house for demonstration, it’s not a complete list, but it’s an excellent example of how we stock our kitchen regularly to Live Lean.

The foods & drinks in the list below all qualify to be on the “Free Foods” list, there are others but this list is ones that are most common and easy to find:
Some may argue that they aren’t “actually zero” and while this may be true it’s the concept and idea that you can include them in abundance in your diet without worrying about counting or limiting portions of them.
When making a recipe, we tally up calories and macros for the non-free foods only and omit the small numbers from these free foods.
For example, if your recipe contains a whole bunch of the veggies from the list but also has chicken, oil, and potatoes, you’d count only those 3 main ingredients and omit the free-foods from your calculations.
