On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing 5 steps on how to make a salad that tastes good, including this homemade honey mustard dressing recipe.
One of the most simple habits you can add to your Live Lean lifestyle, is eating one big ass salad every day.
But before you say, ewwww, salad, hear me out.
I’ve been a big ass salad convert for over 6 years now.
I admit, during the first 2 years of eating salad, I didn’t enjoy it, because I was making my salads wrong.
I know this, because many of you tag me in your Instagram salad photos.
Unfortunately all I’m seeing in the photos is a basic plate with lettuce, maybe some big chunks of dried up chicken, and some store bought fattening dressing.
Besides the fact that the fattening dressing is ruining all the health benefits from the salad, the salad won’t please your palate, so you won’t want to make it again.
Here at Live Lean TV, we’re all about making healthy food taste amazing, including salads.
One of my pet peeves is getting food on my face.
During the first 2 years of my salad journey, the salads I made always did this.
Then in 2013, I met my future wife Jessica.
Jessica’s salad game was on point.
One of the best salad secrets she taught me was to chop the lettuce into bite sized pieces before you add it to your plate.
This simple step was a salad game changer for me, and many of you, who I’ve already shared this tip with.
Adding different textures will really level up your salad game.
One of the best ways to do this is nuts.
Not only do nuts add crunchiness, they also add healthy fats that will keep you feeling full.
Celery, thinly sliced carrots, and my new favorite, beets, all add different textures and flavors, and a great step to make a salad that tastes good.
I credit Jessica with salad making tip as well.
Who knew, simply adding salt and pepper would be another awesome way on how to make a salad taste good.
Also consider adding onion powder, garlic powder, or any of your favorite spice mixes.
Lets move on to the final step.
I have always done this, but I haven’t always done it well.
The goal is not to just add a big chunk of protein, like a chicken breast.
It’s also important to spice up the chicken to make it taste amazing, then cut it up into bite sized pieces.
Adding a well seasoned and properly cooked food high in protein helps not only help you hit your daily protein targets, but it also will help fill you up.
First, don’t be afraid of salad dressings that contain healthy fat.
In order for your body to absorb all of the fat soluble vitamins in the salad, it’s important to include a healthy fat source in your salad dressing.
Also, let me be blunt.
Stop buying store bought salad dressings that contain vegetable oils, including canola oil and soybean oil, and other added chemicals and sugar.
Making your own homemade salad dressings is so quick and easy.
Let me hook you up with one right now.
Add this quick and delicious, homemade honey mustard dressing to your next salad.
