How To Do A Hack Squat Calf Raise Correctly

The hack squat calf raise is a great exercise that isolates the calf muscles, in particular, the gastrocnemius which is above the other portion of the calf muscle, the soleus.

To get started:

  1. Place the balls of your feet firmly on the platform and grab the handles with your hands.
  2. Toe positioning can play a role in which part of the gastrocnemius you’re training.
  3. With your toes straight, you’re targeting the overall gastrocnemius.
  4. With toes in, you’re targeting the outside of the gastrocnemius.
  5. With toes out, you’re targeting the inside of the gastrocnemius.
  6. Keeping your legs straight, press the balls of your feet through the platform to raise as high as you can.
  7. Feel a good contraction, then under control, lower your heels to feel a good stretch at the bottom of the lift.
  8. Repeat.
