How To Do A Standing Dumbbell Calf Raise On Step Correctly

The standing dumbbell calf raise on step is a great way to target the calf muscles, especially the gastrocnemius which is targeted more when the knee is straight.

To get started:

  1. Hold a pair of dumbbells down by your sides with a palms facing in grip, while placing the balls of your feet on top of a sturdy object like a step, or you can use 25 pound weight plates on the floor that are about 2 inches high.
  2. Press through the balls of your feet to rise up onto your toes as high as you can.
  3. Pause to feel a good contraction in your calves, then slowly lower your heels back to the starting position to feel a good stretch, while flexing your foot to contract the front of your calves.
