Do This One Thing To Eat Less Junk Food

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, we share our best advice on how to eliminate unhealthy foods when you’re completely addicted.

This is the first episode in our #WayBackWednesday series where we highlight the best questions from previous episodes of our #AskLiveLeanTV Q&A show.

This question is from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 001, when we were still living in LA.

How To Eliminate Unhealthy Foods When You're Completely Addicted

Kelly Marie on Facebook says:
“Hey guys, my question for you is: twice I’ve tried to completely eliminate sugar from my diet, eating completely lean. Both times I’ve had gallbladder attacks. The doctor told me that it was because it was too drastic of a change. While eating clean, the pain would come instantly after eating red meat, like steak. How would you gradually eliminate unhealthy foods when your body is completely addicted? Thanks.”

I agree with your doctor when they said it’s usually too drastic of a change to completely eliminate sugar all at once.

However, I find it hard to believe that cutting out sugar and eating clean was the cause of your gallbladder attacks.

My advice would be to cut back slowly on sugar rather than going all or nothing.

Living Lean Is A Marathon, Not A Sprint

So rather than cutting out sugar completely, cut back on one cookie a day.

Or if you’re drinking soda, rather than cutting out soda completely, replace one can of soda with one glass of water, and just keep going from there.

diet soda vs regular soda vs stevia soda

When people have sugar addictions, it usually has more to do with beverages than food, since it’s harder to eat a lot of cookies, compared to drinking a lot of soda and juice.

Anything sugar source that’s in liquid form is really easy to over consume since doesn’t fill you up.

Most people can drink tons of soda all day because they’re mindlessly drinking it while doing other things.

Sugar filled coffee drinks are another a culprit.

If you’re having multiple mocha lattes or other sugary coffees every day, try just replacing one of those with water.

Bottom Line: How To Eliminate Unhealthy Foods When You’re Completely Addicted

Focus on little baby steps.

Eliminating unhealthy foods from your diet doesn’t have to be an all or nothing decision.

It doesn’t matter what unhealthy food or drink it is, gradually cut back every week.

If you’re eating 5 cookies a day, next week, aim to eat only 4 cookies a day.

Then 3 cookies a day the following week, then 2, etc.

It’s not always necessary to completely eliminate unhealthy food.

Living Lean is a lifestyle, so in the beginning, focus on slowly cutting back on unhealthy foods.

It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing situation.
