Muscle Recovery Foods And Supplements For Beginners

Brad: It sounds like you’re getting sore after your weight lifting workouts. This soreness is normal in the beginning, since your body is not used to that lifting stimulus. When you lift weights, you break down the muscles, which causes small micro tears. This creates muscle soreness 1-2 days later, which is often referred to as DOMS, short for delayed onset muscle soreness.

Jessica: Lifting weights three times a week is really not that frequent, therefore you should have plenty of recovery time.

Brad: True, but if it is a beginner, you’re going to notice the muscle soreness for the first month or so. However, if you’re only lifting three times a week, this muscle soreness will eventually go away since it’s not the frequency of workouts is not that high.

When it comes to supplements and foods to help you recover better, food is going to be your first source. You need to make sure you’re getting enough protein, since protein contain the BCAAs that will help you recover and repair your sore muscles.

Jessica: When he says protein, we’re talking about things like chicken, fish, beef, eggs, and protein powder.

Brad: Yes. If you’re looking for supplements, you could do a protein powder or branched chained amino acids can help as well.

We use these supplements:

Jessica: Make sure you’re drinking a lot of water. Water really helps speed up muscle recovery.

Brad: Lastly, don’t forget to focus on improving the quality of your sleep. If you’re ballin’ on a budget and can only afford one or the other, focus on filling up your cart with foods high in protein.

Jessica: If you’re not sure how to cook with those raw ingredients, check out our healthy cookbooks, which include recipes using all the foods that we recommended. All these meals are perfect for muscle recovery.
