How would you rank the importance of whey protein, BCAA, and CLA for a female that wants to lose fat and gain muscle?

Jess: I would say whey protein is the highest in importance.

If you can only afford one of these three supplements, I’d recommend getting whey protein only.

BCAAs are important for gaining muscle, especially if you are a hard gainer.

However, BCAAs are also in whey protein naturally, so if you are also taking a BCAA supplement, it goes above and beyond what you’re already getting from whey protein.

I would ditch CLA since I don’t think it’s all that important.

If you’re looking for supplements that you don’t need to take or spend money on, you could get rid of CLA.

Is CLA Bad For You Or Is It Good For Weight Loss?

In some cases, CLA may help with fat loss, however the most important thing for fat loss is you’re in a slight caloric deficit and you’re doing your workouts.

Brad: Yeah, it sounds like what you want is a body recomp.

If this is the case, whey protein is definitely important, and the BCAAs can be important as well because, as you said, you’re going to be in a slight calorie deficit.

Therefore you want to make sure that you’re actually maintaining and protecting your muscle.

Jess: And not burning into your muscle.

Brad: That’s what the essential amino acids can do.

They will create an ozone layer over your muscles to help protect them when you’re in that slight calorie deficit.

I would go with whey protein and BCAAs, and then I would toss CLA out, if you don’t have it in your budget.

Jess: In the order you listed them in the question, that’s the order of importance.
