Ingredients
  • 1/4bunch kale
  • 1-2tsp Extra virgin olive oil(or avocado oil)
  • 1dash Sea Salt
Instructions
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350F.
  2. Wash the kale, then dry it in a salad spinner or with a paper towel.
  3. Remove the thick crunchy stem of the kale from the kale leaves with a paring knife. Do not include the stem in this recipe. The kale chips are just made with the leaf. Throw the stem in the compost, then cut each leaf of kale into a potato chip sized bite.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or tin foil. I find parchment paper works better.
  5. Place the kale on the baking sheet, in a single layer. Here is a very important tip. Do not place the kale on top of each other. If you create a double layer of kale, the kale chips will not have the same crunchy texture as a potato chip. If you’re making more than 1-2 servings, use two baking sheets. Note: to ensure the oil and salt evenly covers the kale chips, you can also mix the kale, olive oil, and salt together in a bowl, before adding to the baking sheet.
  6. If you have leftover kale that doesn’t fit on the baking sheet, add it to a glass storage container, store it in the fridge, and make another serving of kale chips tomorrow night.
  7. For a regular sized baking sheet, drizzle 1-2 tsp of olive oil on top of the kale. Do not use too much olive oil as it will make the kale chips soggy rather than crunchy.
  8. Add some sea salt to the palm of your hand, then sprinkle over top of the kale.
  9. You can also add other optional toppings including: lemon juice, curry powder, nutritional yeast, or red pepper flakes to really spice it up. But for this kale chips recipe, I’m keeping it simple by just adding olive oil and sea salt.
  10. Once the oven is pre-heated to 350F, add the baking sheet to the oven, and bake for 10 minutes. Make sure you watch it bake very closely. Once you see the corners of the kale start to get crispy, remove it from the heat as you do not want to overcook it.
  11. After 10 minutes is up, check to see if your kale chips are looking good and smelling delicious. You can also take a bite to see if they’re crunchy. If you hear the crunch, your kale chips are done.
