I’ll also talk about the negative effect that alcohol, binge drinking, and hangovers has on your journey to Live Lean and some tips on how to increase your recovery to cure that nasty hangover.
It’s no secret that alcohol is not the best use of your calorie requirements.
But, since I’m always teaching you how to make Living Lean a balanced lifestyle, I’m sure we can fit in the occasional glass of red wine for you.
The real issue with alcohol is the binge drinking, and then the hangovers.
Before I talk more about this, be honest, and tell me your answers to the following questions, in the comment section below:
I’ll share my answers to these questions in the comments below as well.
Binge drinking is defined as, “the consumption of an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time.”
Although there is no official binge number, it is widely accepted that a binge would be:
Here’s a crazy stat.
A US survey showed 1 in 6 adults binge drinks about 4 times a month, at an average of 8 drinks per binge.
And it’s no surprise that a study in Finland showed binge drinking and hangovers increases your risk of heart disease and stroke.
So if you like your heart, try to stick to 1-2 drinks if you’re celebrating.
However, be careful if you already have high blood pressure, as your risk can double,
Or, if you have a history of type 2 diabetes or heart disease in your family, be careful.
Not only can binge drinking lead to a quicker journey downstairs in the ground, excessive alcohol consumption can also mess with your muscle building and fat burning hormones.
This is caused by the increase in the aromatization of testosterone into estrogen.
Hence the overwhelming number of men walking around the streets with man boobs and beer bellies.
Excessive alcohol after your training can also eliminate all performance gains and can slow down your recovery.
It’s also been shown that just 3 drinks can decrease men’s strength by 45 percent, 12 hours after drinking alcohol.
If eliminating alcohol isn’t an option for you, focus on making “healthier” alcohol choices.
For example, choice a:
Research shows, even just one hangover per year can increase your risk of stroke, compared to those who didn’t have a hangover.
Try to limit your consumption of alcohol to 1-2 drinks with meals, a few days a week.
And if you’re not a big drinker, but decide to go out for the occasional binge, it’s safe to say that hangover is guaranteed to get you!
But if that happens, I have your back.
Here are 4 ways to reduce the effects and cure your hangover faster.
After a night a drinking, it’s important to drink a lot of water.
Aim for at least 0.7 oz of water per pound of bodyweight.
For example, I’m 175 pounds, so for me, that would equal, 122 oz of water, or approximately 4 liters.
Add lemon or another citrus fruit to your water to increase the alkalinity and help out your poor liver.
Also consider adding some electrolytes to your water.
Asparagus has been shown to help cure the effects of a hangover.
I also love a good mango or pineapple when I overdo it.

We all know that green tea is high in antioxidants.
However, these antioxidants can help protect your liver from alcohol damage, as well as helping to speed up the detox process.
Drink some green tea before and after your night out of drinking.
The caffeine can also help alleviate the misery of a hangover, similar to what a coffee would.
That’s right.
As crazy as it sounds, one way to eliminate the toxins is to sweat them out.
