On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, we’re sharing ideas of what to do if you are always hungry before bed.
This was a question from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 014.
@henriettacrazy on Twitter asks: I am always hungry before going to bed. I was wondering what I should do? Should I ignore it and just got to bed, or should I eat something?
Awesome question because I know I’ve asked the same thing in the past too.
Here’s the deal.
Just like most answers in fitness and nutrition, it depends.
It sounds like you’re debating the following:
A lot of people follow intuitive eating.
Intuitive eating is when you eat when you are hungry, and you skip eating when you are not hungry.
However, in my opinion, the more important issue to address is why are you always feeling hungry before bed.
So let’s quickly talk about two reasons why you may be hungry before bed.
Besides being bored in front of the TV, two of the main reasons why you’re hungry before bed is:
In many cases, the calories you are eating, are just increasing your cravings and making you feel hungrier.
This is usually caused by eating processed foods high in refined carbohydrates, such as:
This spikes your blood sugar, then crashes your blood sugar, thus making your body crave more sugar.
Trust me, I get it.
If you’re like Jessica and I, you are very busy raising kids, building your business, or working.
This makes finding the time to eat healthy meals high in protein, healthy fat, and fiber tough, but not impossible.
One of the best ways to easily fill up on healthy calories, without being a slave in the kitchen, is drinking a meal replacement shake.
Not all meal replacement shakes are created equally.
Be careful because a lot of meal replacement shakes at the grocery store are filled with junk ingredients high in sugar, artificial flavors, and chemicals.
You need to look for a meal replacement shake that is:
On my last BradGouthroTV vlog, I shared my favorite clean and macro friendly meal replacement from a brand called HLTH Code.
By the way are you subscribed to my Brad Gouthro TV vlog channel, right?
Each serving of HLTH Code contains:
Not only are the ingredients and macronutrients on point, this meal replacement shake also mixes so easily and smooth.
Plus, the Chocolate Macadamia and Creamy Vanilla flavor tastes amazing.

There is a difference between your protein powder and a meal replacement shake.
Typically protein powder only contains approximately 120 calories, and is made up of primarily protein.
This is great for your post workout protein shake after a workout.
However, if you’re busy and on the go, mixing protein powder with water does not provide enough calories to make up for a missed meal.
That’s when a clean meal replacement shake from HLTH Code comes into play.
Consuming this meal replacement shake will definitely help minimize your late night cravings.
Let’s say you hit your daily calorie goal, but you’re still hungry before bed.
This can happen if you finished your last meal much earlier in the day or you’re up late watching TV.
You can simply overcome this by just going to bed earlier.
However, if you can’t sleep because you’re so hungry, try:

A lot of the reasons why you think you feel hungry at night could be from boredom.
Your perceived hunger may be driven by the fact that you’re sitting on the couch watching all the pizza and McDonald’s commercials on TV.
This can be avoided by turning off the TV and picking up a good book to read.
Books don’t advertise fast food commercials.
I promise you, there are no McDonald’s commercials in my book Think And Live Lean 😉.
This book actually teaches you how to create the mindset to Live Lean.
Bonus tip: go brush your teeth.
This is an awesome hack because nobody wants to eat after they just brushed their teeth.
Think about it, how annoying would it be to have to brush your teeth twice in 10 minutes?
Again, it depends.
If you feel like you’re hungry, but you know, or have a good idea, that you’ve already ate your calories for the day, think mind over body.
Turn off the TV and go to bed.
If you can’t sleep, sip on a hot tea and read a good book.
But, if you did actually under eat for the day, go eat.
