With that said, let’s jump right back in and answer the question, should you workout on holiday?
With the Labor Day holiday long weekend coming up, I’m often asked how to stay lean and healthy during the holidays.
In particular:
Should you use the holiday as a rest day, or should you plan to get in a workout?
What do you think I’m going to say?
Before reading any further, scroll to the bottom of this post and type in your guess in the comment section below.
All right, you may be thinking that based on the title of this post, the answer is yes, you should get in a workout during the holidays.
However, like most things fitness and nutrition related, it depends.
For example:
The rationale is obvious.
Taking 7 days off to do nothing but laze around the house, and over consume sugary foods and alcohol, is not Live Lean approved.
Not only will this increase the probability of weight gain and slow your metabolism, it will also potentially cause longer-term issues when it comes to your discipline.
If you’re still new to the Live Lean lifestyle, a lot of you may have not yet established working out and eating healthy, as lifelong habits yet.
For example, I occasionally a take 7 day deload week, which essentially means a recovery week away from lifting heavy weights at the gym.
Taking a week off from the gym can be healthy for the body, however it doesn’t mean you can just sit on the couch, and eat whatever you want.
During this deload week, I’m still staying active:
In other words, as a life-long committed member of the Live Lean Nation, I would have a really hard time not being active, and eating like crap for a week.
It would actually be brutal for me, and I’d be counting down the days until I could get back to the gym.
I’m like this, because I have the Live Lean Mindset which is all about being disciplined.
This means exercising and eating healthy are not chores for me, they have become daily habits.
It’s just like brushing my teeth.
I don’t feel right, if I don’t do it every day.
However, if you haven’t established working out and eating healthy as habits yet, by taking a full 7 days off, you’re risking falling back into your old poor habits, and stopping all of your Live Lean momentum.
This is why so many people fall off the wagon.
People fall off the wagon because they haven’t established these daily healthy rituals as habits yet.
Research points to the fact it now takes 66 days to form new habits.
Indulging in holiday snacks and consuming more calories than you need, is one thing.
Over indulging and not working out, is a completely different situation.
If you’re enjoying this Labor Day weekend with friends and family, I would recommend you use just one day as your cheat meal.
However, I also recommend you try to get in a really good workout, earlier in the day.
This way you can use those extra calories to replace lost glycogen, and fuel up your muscle cells after the workout.
Any of the workouts from our 30 day Team Live Lean workout plans would be perfect for that pre-party workout in the morning.
This is what a true Live Leaner would do.
