On today’s episode, I’m talking about grass fed beef benefits and why you should always choose grass fed beef over grain fed beef.
Have you heard of grass fed beef?
“Umm, beef that eats grass?”.
Yeah smart guy, beef that eats grass, but did you know that grass fed beef is listed as one of the top 12 Live Lean superfoods?
Yes, but not just any type of red meat, grass fed red meat.
Here’s why.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the many health benefits of wild salmon, especially the high omega-3 content.
But did you know grass fed beef is also high in healthy omega 3’s?
That’s right, not only is grass fed beef a great source of protein, but it also has a similar omega 3 to omega 6 ratio as wild salmon.
Of course, you’ll run into people that will tell you red meat is bad for you because of the saturated fat content.
Although I disagree, I do believe there is a difference in the health benefits from eating conventional, factory farmed, grain feed beef versus grass fed beef.
The problem with most factory farmed beef is the cows are confined and fed an unnatural diet, full of fattening soy, grains, hormones, and antibiotics.
These farmers do this, because this feed quickly fattens up the cows, which equals more profits.
Unfortunately this unnatural feed also makes the beef less healthy for you.
Just ask Mother nature and she will tell you that cattle were not designed to eat grains and soy.
They were meant to roam freely and graze of grass.
When cattle are forced to eat a diet of full of grains and soy, the fat ratio of the meat gets altered.
The fat composition of the beef becomes higher in inflammatory omega 6 fatty acids and lower in healthy omega 3 fatty acids.
This is not optimal as most people’s diet are lacking omega 3s.
Contrast that with grass fed beef.
As mentioned earlier, one of the biggest grass fed beef benefits is that it supplies your body with muscle building protein and a healthy source of omega 3 fat.
I bet 95% of people aren’t aware that grass fed beef is high in omega 3 fats.
In fact, test someone next time you’re talking about beef, since I’m sure “beef talk” comes up all the time!
Seriously though, today’s standard American diet means most people’s ratio of omega 6s to omega 3s are way out of whack.
This can be the cause of lot of the unnecessary inflammation in the body that many people are suffering from today.
Here’s another grass fed beef benefit, CLA.
Yes, grass fed beef contains a much higher amount of CLA compared to grain fed beef.
Why is this a good thing?
Studies show that natural sources of CLA may be helpful in building muscle and losing fat.
This is why you see synthetic versions of CLA added to many “fat burner” supplements.
Of course, getting CLA from its natural source, like grass fed beef, is much better than the synthetic version found in supplements.
The meat you eat is only as healthy as the animal it came from.
When cattle are treated humanly and free to roam and graze on grass, the nutrients in the meat becomes healthier for you!
Grass fed beef is one of the healthiest forms of meat you can add to your diet.
But be aware.
Just because the label says organic, it does not necessarily mean it’s grass fed.
Always read the labels and opt for grass fed beef whenever possible.

I did not know the difference in Omega 3’s in grass-fed beef. I have always heard that grass-fed beef is a lot healthier, but never really knew why. My wife and I will have to find a place to purchase some so we can start eating this.
